Palliative Care is a philosophy of care which ensures the greatest emotional, physical and spiritual comfort for terminally ill patients when aggressive treatment is no longer desirable or appropriate. It is the role of the our team to emphasize comfort and a better quality of life remaining to the patient; to assist in symptom control; to respond to the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient, family and friends, and finally to offer bereavement follow-up to family members.
The four private rooms which compose the Palliative Care Unit are spacious with a beautiful view of either the Miramichi River or the woodlands surrounding the hospital. Not only attractive in appearance, the rooms are equipped with special equipment and features to ensure the utmost comfort and tranquility for all of our patients.

The Pediatrics Unit provides a 24-hour service to children from infants up to and including 14 years of age. Children admitted to the unit receive individualized and family-centered care based on their physical, emotional, developmental and social needs. Our staff believes that family involvement is essential in the care of the child to provide security in the hospital setting. We also believe that ‘play’ is imperative in enhancing physical and psychological growth and to strengthen personality. Both family involvement and play are critical factors in the child’s recovery. A new pediatric clinic opened in July 2007 at the entrance of the pediatric department; the child friendly design will allow children receiving day treatments to recuperate in appropriate surroundings.
